Question:
What is exactly was the height given to Adam and Hawwa when Allah sent them to earth and which location on earth did Allah put them based on Quranic history and what is the exact explanation regarding the words (Dhira) I’m just concern the history about Adam and Hawwa
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.
Your question will be answered in three parts. Firstly, the hadith which tells us how tall Saaiduna Adam Alayhis Salam was. Secondly, what is the meaning of dhira and lastly which location did Saaiduna Adam Alayhis Salam and Hawwa descend to.
It is mentioned in a hadith narrated by Saaiduna Abu Hurairah from the Prophet of Allah who said, “Allah created Adam Alayhis Salam and he was sixty cubits (dhira) tall. Then He said, ‘Go and greet those angels and listen to how they greet you, for that will be your greeting and the greeting of your progeny.’ He said, ‘Assalamualaikum.’ They said, ‘Asalamualaikum wa rahmat-Allah.’ So they added the words ‘wa rahmat Allaah.’ And everyone who enters Paradise will be in the form of Adam. People kept on growing smaller until now.” (Sahih al-Bukhaari, 3336; Muslim, 7092)
Dhirah is a unit of length based on the length of a forearm.
Regarding the final issue the following opinions have been given by the commentators of the Holy Qur’an regarding the location where Saaidun Adam Alayhis Salam and Hawwa descended.
‘Imraan ibn ‘Uyaynah said, (narrating) from ‘Ata’ ibn al-Saa’ib, from Sa‘eed ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ‘Abbaas, who said: Adam came down from Paradise in Dahna, in the land of India.
Ibn Abi Haatim narrates from Saaiduna Ibn Abbas who said: Adam Alayis Salam came down in a land called Dajna, between Makkah and Taaif.
It is narrated by Hasan Basri that Adam Alyhis Salam came down in India and Hawwa in Jeddah, and Iblees in Dastumeesaan a few miles from Basrah, and the serpent came down in Asbahaan.
Ibn Abi Haatim narrates from Saaiduna Ibn Umar who said Adam Alayhis Salam came down on Mount Safa and Hawwa Mount Marwah. (Extracted from Imam Suyuuti’s Durre Manthuur p.111-p.112 v.1)
