Question:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

I am heavily affected by wasawis.  I keep getting doubts, bad thoughts and I get questionable thoughts.

I keep getting thoughts if you do this or that it will amount to loose Imaan then different scenarios keep coming to my mind. I do not want to put my Imaan on the condition so I say I never ever, in any case, have any bad intention of losing Imaan.

When I am about to do something sinful, I get thoughts if you do this and this it will amount to losing Imaan.

Is my Imaan intact? I love my imaan please tell me what to do in this situation of getting extreme thoughts. I keep getting nonstop thoughts.

Answer:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Please be assured that these whisperings and doubts in your minds do not negate your iman.

Even the companions would have these thoughts and doubts due to waswasa, and the Prophet confirms that this is a sign of clear faith, because the companions showed that they knew the importance of iman.

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that some people from amongst the Companions of the Apostle () came to him and said:

Verily we perceive in our minds that which every one of us considers it too grave to express. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Do you really perceive it? They said: Yes. Upon this, he remarked: That is a clear faith. [1]

Please be reminded that committing sins is the act which draws us away from Allah (SWT) and closer to the whisperings of Shaytaan. Therefore I would strongly advise that you make a firm intention to leave committing any type of sin and then make an effort to stay away from even the company or situations which leads you to commit sins.

Secondly, an increase in the dhikr and remembrance of Allah (SWT). Remember for every step you take towards Allah (SWT), He will take manifold steps towards you.
