How To Know If The Meat Is Halal

Question:

Salam

We will be travelling to Abu Dhabi soon. My query is regarding food and its halal status. How do we determine if the meat is fully halal? What accreditation bodies and certificates should we consider as fully halal in the UAE?

Answer:

Wa alaykum Assalaam

The biggest brand in the UAE for chickens is Al Rawdah. Their chicken is hand slaughtered. This is the same with Saha and Al Ain farms’ chicken.

The best option if you do not recognize a brand is to contact the company slaughtering the meat and ask if they hand slaughter their chicken, and whether they follow the necessary halal procedures. You should be more cautious when it comes to meat imported from Western countries and should opt for locally slaughtered meat in the UAE.

Also, when eating out, one should only eat at restaurants owned by practising Muslims. You can ask the owner where they source their meat from and whether their chicken is hand slaughtered. If the practicing Muslim owner states that his food is Halal and hand slaughtered, you may accept his word and eat at his restaurant.

In terms of halal accreditation boards, it is best to ask local scholars from the UAE since they will have the most accurate information in this regard.
