Question:

I know you may think my question is stupid and you might even belittle me for it. But I really want to know, as it seems women are not valued much. For example, a woman in paradise will have to share her husband with hundreds of women if not thousands. This means that a woman won’t be able to spend lots of time with her husband on a daily basis. Hence a woman’s desire to spend lots of time with her husband every day, is not fulfilled. I know you will say there is no envy, jealousy or ill feelings but the point is a woman will NOT get what she desires in paradise, rather feel like a woman is severely deprived in paradise. I feel like instead of a woman being given in paradise, she is deprived. See men hate to share their wives, so they will not share them with anyone, men want to spend lots of time with their wives so they get this. men want loyal wives so they get this in paradise. On the other hand a woman hates to share her husband she is denied this, a woman loves to have a caring husband who she sees every day for long hours yet she is denied. Because of this, I can’t perceive paradise in a good way for women, because it seems it is a place of deprivation rather than a reward for them. A woman hates to have one co-wife, so she will have 100s of co-wives which is even worse. A woman loves to spend many hours every day with her husband again she is denied. because of this, i can’t see it as a place of reward for women.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Firstly, the inhabitants of paradise will have all of their desires and wishes fulfilled, both males and females.

Allah states in the holy Quran; “There you will have whatever your souls desire, and there you will have whatever you ask for.
Accommodation from the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful (Lord).” (Quran, 41:31-32)

In other words, ` all your desires would be fulfilled whether you request or you don’t.’ The word used after that is (nuzulan) meaning hospitality indicates that many the delights provided to you there will be such that even desire had not entered your heart, as happens to a guest, especially of a great personage, that many such things also are presented to him that the guest had not even imagined. (Maariful Quran)

Thus it is incorrect to perceive that women will not have their desires fulfilled in paradise or they would be at a disadvantage.

With regard to the inhabitants of paradise, Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “The first group (of people) who will enter Paradise will be (glittering) like the moon when it is full. They will not spit or blow their noses or relieve nature. Their utensils will be of gold and their combs of gold and silver; in their centres the aloe wood will be used, and their sweat will smell like musk. Every one of them will have two wives; the marrow of the bones of the wives’ legs will be seen through the flesh out of excessive beauty. They ( i.e. the people of Paradise) will neither have differences nor hatred amongst themselves; their hearts will be as if one heart and they will be glorifying Allah in the morning and in the evening.” (Sahih al Bukhari, hadith # 3245)

Allah has created wives for the dwellers of paradise which the Quran refers to as “Hoor” As part of the gifts given to man in paradise he shall be granted these ‘Hoors’ (women of Jannah) who will be his wives along with the wife he had on the earth.

It is natural for a woman to feel jealous and not want to share her husband with another wife. However, jealousy is from the characteristics of the people of this world.

It is important to understand that paradise is a pure place and is free from envy, jealousy, hatred, malice, anger, greed, lust and any of the other vices of human beings. People in happy will live happily with each other and will never become displeased.

In conclusion, a woman should be patient and put her trust in Allah and have a firm belief in Allah’s promises. She should understand that all the women in paradise would be pious, virtuous and fully pleased with the comfort Allah has placed for all the inhabitants of paradise. In paradise, the hearts, minds, thoughts and feelings would be totally different from their present state. A true understanding of paradise will be obtained when one enters paradise.
