Question:

I have a question regarding the iddah period. If a woman has a medical condition and takes pills that stop her menstrual cycle due to her condition affecting her, what is the iddah period? How do we count it? Would she have to stop her medication until she has cycles?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

The iddah (waiting period after divorce) of a woman who does not menstruate for reasons such as young age, menopause, or sickness is 3 lunar months.
