Question:
If a woman dons ihram for Umrah and then she doesn’t become pure, until the days of Hajj start
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
A Haidah woman cannot perform Tawaaf of the Ka’bah, as it is inside a Masjid (Al Muhit Al Burhani, Vol 1, Pg 403). However, she can complete the other rituals for Hajj and perform Tawaaf after she turns pure (Al Hidayah, Vol 2, Pg 256).
Qasim narrates:`Aisha (RA) said, “We set out with the sole intention of performing Hajj and when we reached Sarif, (a place six miles from Mecca) I got my menses. Allah’s Messenger ﷺ came to me while I was weeping. He said ‘What is the matter with you? Have you got your menses?’ I replied, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘This is a thing which Allah has ordained for the daughters of Adam. So do what all the pilgrims do with the exception of the Tawaf (Circumambulation) around the Ka`ba.” `Aisha added, “Allah’s Messenger ﷺ sacrificed cows on behalf of his wives.” (Sahih Al Bukhari, 294)
`Aish(RA) narrated: I was menstruating when I reached Mecca. So, I neither performed the Tawaf of the Ka`ba, nor the Tawaf between Safa and Marwa. Then I informed Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) about it. He replied, “Perform all the ceremonies of Hajj like the other pilgrims, but do not perform Tawaf of the Ka`ba till you get clean (from your menses).” (Sahih Al Bukhari, 1650)
As for performing Tawaf after she becomes pure, she will only need to perform Tawaaf Ziyaarah as it is compulsory, and the hajj will not be complete without it.
In summary, a woman who wears an ihram in the state of Haidh can perform all the actions of Hajj except Tawaaf. She should perform Tawaaf Ziyaarah when she becomes pure.
Only Allah knows best.
