Question:

If due to weakness in the knee, someone wears a knee brace while in the state of Ihram, will that make dam laazim?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

During the state of ihram, a muhrim is not allowed to wear sewn or patched clothing.

However, in regards to your query, due to necessity, having to wear a brace will be deemed permissible as it is wrapping the knee and we take this ruling from Mufti Rasheed Ahmed Ludhyanwi who mentioned that wearing a langoot would be permissible for hernia patients. (1)

He ruled that there is no compensation for this and thus if the knee brace is worn due to extreme need, compensation won’t be required.

آنت وغیرہ انتر نے کے عذر کی وجہ سے لنگوٹ باندھنا جائز ہے، اور ہر دل عذر مگر دہ ہے گر اس پر کوئی جزار واجب نہیں ، نیکر پہننا ہرحال ناجائز ہے، اور اس پر لبس محیط کی جزاء راجب ہے، قال في شرح التنويرفان زرره اوخلله اوعقده أساء ولادم عليه ، وفى الشامية وكذالوشده بحبل ونحوه حينئذ بالمخيط (رد المحتارم) فقط والله تعالى أعلم ۲۴ محرم ش
