Question:

Somebody performs 20 Rakah Taraweeh and then leads a later Taraweeh jamaat as well. Valid?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

It is not permissible for the Imaam to lead the Taraweeh Salah twice on the same day. He can lead one Taraweeh Salah with the intention of Sunnah, then read a second time as Muqtadi (follower) behind another Imaam with the intention of Nafl. He cannot however lead the Taraweeh a second time.

(٢) وَلَوْ صَلَّى التَّرَاوِيحَ مَرَّتَيْنِ فِي مَسْجِدٍ وَاحِدٍ يُكْرَهُ، كَذَا فِي فَتَاوَى قَاضِي خَانْ.

إمَامٌ يُصَلِّي التَّرَاوِيحَ فِي مَسْجِدَيْنِ فِي كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ عَلَى الْكَمَالِ لَا يَجُوزُ، كَذَا فِي مُحِيطِ السَّرَخْسِيِّ وَالْفَتْوَى عَلَى ذَلِكَ، كَذَا فِي الْمُضْمَرَاتِ.
