Question

My husband was leading Maghrib Salah at the office. He forgot to sit after 2 rakats and stood up. After hearing Allahu Akbar from behind, he sat down; later he offered Sajdah Sahw. Is that ok or does he have to repeat the salah?

Answer

In the aforementioned scenario, if he stood up but he was closer to the sitting position then he will sit back down again and there is no need for Sajdah Sahwe. However, if he stood up completely Sajdah Sahwe will be obligatory and the salah will be valid. (Hidayah p.139 v.1 & Fatawa Rahimiyah p.193 v.5)
