Question

Assalamualaikum,

This is a question regarding the current situation of the Haram Sharif.

A family performed tawaf yesterday and have been in ihram ever since, as they are waiting for Sa’ee. However, this is closed until further notice and there is also no permission to perform any sacrifice.

What options are available for them? The family are supposed to be leaving for Jeddah in a couple of hours.

Answer:

There are 2 Wajib actions for Umrah:

(1) Saee between Safa and Marwah

(2) Shaving or trimming the hair [1]

When a person does not fulfil a wajib action of Umrah, then he/she is required to offer a sacrifice as a form of expiation. This offering is not restricted to the Holy Lands, he/she may offer a sacrifice in their own country after returning from Umrah.

In regards to your query, the family should offer individual sacrifices based on the number of members unable to perform the Saee of Umrah. This sacrifice can be offered in their own country since the local authorities are not allowing the facility to sacrifice within the area.
