Question:
I would like to be explained if a Muslim dies in a state of being a Musafir (Traveller) is he/she a Shaheed (Martyr? If yes does he/ she given the same treatment as any other shaheeds on the day of judgement. If not what Allah has promised for them?
Answer:
A person passing away whilst travelling would not be considered a Shaheed, unless one was hit by a car or whose car turns over and causes his death takes the same ruling as the person who dies beneath a collapsed structure.
However, such a Shaheed will be treated as a Shaheed Hukmi. He or she will be given a Ghusl and be given a Sunnah Kafan after which the Janaza Salah will be performed. (Raddul Muhtar p.672 v.1)
It is narrated by Saaiduna Jaabir ibn ‘Ateek that the Prophet of Allah said that besides martyrdom for the sake of Allah, there are seven other types of martyrs: the victim of plague, the person who drowns, the victim of pleurisy, the victim of an abdominal ailment, the person who is burned, the person who dies beneath a collapsed structure and the woman who dies while giving birth.
