I have two children (boys) one is 10 years old & he has some delays in development. The second is a special needs child with autism & many more complications.

Question

My wife is 5 months pregnant right now.

1. The baby is diagnosed with a backbone problem. That may be some parts missing or not straight.

2- Heart Arteries are not properly placed as in normal human beings.

3- Some chromosomes are also disturbed, not sure but not down syndrome.

Doctors are not sure about the consequences, how many surgeries will be required for the backbone or maybe he is not able to sit even.

In this condition, can we abort the baby as our children already have complications and the current fetus is not in a healthy condition?

Answer:

May Allah Ta’ala reward you for the service you provide to your children, bless you with patience, and make it a means of paradise for you.

The jurists allow abortion within 120 days with the advice of a practising Muslim doctor.¹ Since the pregnancy has passed the 120-day threshold it will not be permissible.
