Question:
Assalam o alaikum. My baby boy has been feeding on infant milk. We started him on SMA brand which clearly states "suitable for halaal". But since the milk appears to be not suitable to him, we have been asked to use Aptamil first infant milk. I contacted Aptamil representative who informed that institute of Islamic jurisprudence UK has certified the milk as halal but I was not able to find it anywhere mentioned like this. Could you please confirm if the milk "aptamil first infant milk" is halaal and can be used? JazakAllah o Kher
Answer:
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As mentioned in their website, Aptamil First Infant Milk 1L resealable bottle is not Halal approved and contains “Mono and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids”. Aptamil First Infant Milk 800G powder, starter pack & 200ML resealable bottle: are Halal approved and do not contain any doubtful ingredients. Regarding the organization which has certified the milk, the company has different authorization bodies for different factories but examples of organizations that have certified their factories are The Halal Food Council of Europe and the Halal Feed & Food Inspection Authority. You may contact the HFCE yourself to confirm for further questions.
And Allah knows best
