Question
Is it makrooh to talk after Isha?
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
Yes, it is disliked to talk after isha prayer. This is against the prophetic way. The Prophet (SAW) is recorded to have disliked speech after the time of isha.
It is narrated in al-Saheehayn from Abi Barzah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to dislike sleeping before ‘Isha’ and speaking afterwards.
Without valid reasons, it is disliked to speak after isha prayer. The habit of idle talk after isha prayer regularly delays people to sleeping in the late night and forgoing tahajjud and fajr prayer. For this reason, the Prophet had disliked such acts.
Note that if there is a valid reason or some beneficial work, then it is permissible to speak after or stay up engaged in that work. An example of this is seeking knowledge after isha prayer which was the method of many of our predecessors (May Allah have mercy on them all).
