Question:

Have been asked regarding the drink above. It is a de-alcoholised drink the alcoholic content is less than or equal to 0.05 percent. Would it be halal to consume.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

There are two types of “de-alcoholised alcohols”:

  • Partially de-alcoholized alcohol (according to the FDA) is when the alcohol content has been reduced to less than 1.1 % (or less than that) which you are not allowed to drink.
  • Fully de-alcoholized alcohol is when the alcohol content has been completely removed

As we know quite clearly that alcohol is an intoxicant. Our beloved prophet (SAW) has said:

كلُّ مُسْكِرٍ خَمْرٌ وَكُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ

Every intoxicant is Khamr and every intoxicant is forbidden [Muslim Hadeeth no: 4963]

But one can say what about if it’s a minute amount or a ‘drop in the bottle amount’ that will never intoxicate you ever? The answer to this is that it is still Haram. Our beloved Prophet (SAW) has mentioned:

مَا أَسْكَرَ كَثِيرُهُ فَقَلِيلُهُ حَرَامٌ

Whatever intoxicates in large quantities, a little of it is haram.” [Tirmidhi Hadeeth no: 1865]

Only Allah knows best.
