Question:

Is it Mustahab for a Haaji not to trim etc after Zul Hijjah enters?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

It is not permissible for a Haji to trim his hair or nails. If he does so, he will need to give Dam or Sadaqah, depending on how much is cut (Fatawa Hindiyya, Vol 1, Pg 268).

One of the reasons that have been suggested regarding why it is Mustahab for non-Hajis to refrain from trimming their hair or clipping their nails is for them to resemble the Hajis, who are not permitted to do so (Sharhun-Nawawi Ala Muslim, Pg 1257).

Only Allah knows best.
