Question

Is it permissible to play card games?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

If the playing of cards entails gambling, then it will not be permissible, as gambling is strictly prohibited in Islam.

If gambling is not involved, then it at least something Makruh and severely disliked as it entails the wasting of time.   

Islam disapproves of such entertainments which are devoid of worldly or religious benefit.

The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said: “From the beauty of one’s Islam is to leave things that have no benefit in them”. (Sunan Tirmizi & Sunan Ibn Majah)
