Question:

Is it permissible to recite Surah Yaseen collectively every morning in the masjid after Fajr and then have a collective dua? Would this be classed as a bida’h?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

This manner of collectively gathering after fajr every single morning and reciting Surah Yaseen Shareef as well as a collective dua following it is not by the practices of the Prophet (May peace and blessings be upon him), the Sahabah or the Tabieen.

The Shariah has not given such guidelines, and the scholars have regarded such practices as Bidah and Makrooh.

The Messenger of Allah (May peace and blessings be upon him said. Whoever performs an act which is not following our [our religion], will be rejected. (Bukhari:2697)

Therefore, such practices should be avoided. If one would like to reap the benefits and virtues of Surah Yaseen, then one may recite it individually when he can do so. There is no basis in Shariah to gather and recite it collectively. Each person should recite it individually in their free time.
