Question
Is it okay to work in real estate?
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
In general, working in real estate is permissible in Islam provided that there are no external elements of harm within the work duties, i.e. interest, gambling, deception, injustice, etc.
Mutual consent must be upheld at all times as Allah the Almighty states: “O you who believe, do not consume one another's wealth unjustly but only [in lawful] business by mutual consent. And do not slay yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful.”[1]
The Prophet (pbuh) said, "Whoever takes a piece of the land of others unjustly, he will sink down the seven earths on the Day of Resurrection."[2]
Therefore, working in real estate in and of itself is permissible according to the law of Islamic Jurisprudence.
