Question

I swore at Allah a long time ago, I don’t remember how old I was then. I have asked so many people about this, but I just don’t feel satisfied every time even when you answer. If I read it I don’t feel satisfied for some reason, am just scared what if I am not a Muslim and what if I don’t have Imaan because of this.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer

As a Muslim, it’s essential that we do not mock or insult anything which is connected with us.

The main pillars of our religion and core beliefs are:

  • To have faith and conviction in Allah
  • To have faith and believe in all The Prophets
  • To believe and accept in all The Angels
  • To believe in all the Holy Books and Scriptures
  • To believe in Life after Death
  • To accept the decree and predestination, that good and bad is all from Allah

Anyone who claims to be a Muslim rejects, neglects, or even mocks and insults the above core beliefs, the person will be out of the fold of Islam. If the person realized the mistake, he or she should repent and ask forgiveness to Allah and recite the Shahadah or Kalimah again.

Allah SWT states in the Qura’an about the Hypocrites (Munafeeq):

وَلَئِن سَأَلتَهُم لَيَقولُنَّ إِنَّما كُنّا نَخوضُ وَنَلعَبُ ۚ قُل أَبِاللَّهِ وَآياتِهِ وَرَسولِهِ كُنتُم تَستَهزِئونَ

If you question them [regarding their conduct], they will surely say, ‘We were just gossiping and amusing ourselves.’ Say, ‘were you deriding Allah, His signs, and His apostles?

Do not make excuses. You have disbelieved after your faith.’ If we forgive a group among you, we will punish another group, for they have been guilty.[1]

From the above verses, Scholars have derived that, if a person insults, mocks Allah and His Prophets, a person will be counted as a disbeliever.

Therefore:

  • Unfortunately, a person who does any insulting, mocking, towards Allah will be counted as a disbeliever.
  • Recite the Shahadah and Kalimah again.
  • The person must repent to Allah with sincerity and make the firm intention of not doing something like that again. Remember, by repenting Allah forgives all the sins regardless of how severe where they.

Allah SWT says in the Qur’an:

قُل يا عِبادِيَ الَّذينَ أَسرَفوا عَلىٰ أَنفُسِهِم لا تَقنَطوا مِن رَحمَةِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغفِرُ الذُّنوبَ جَميعًا ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الغَفورُ الرَّحيمُ

Say [that Allah declares,] ‘O My servants who have committed excesses against their own souls, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed Allah will forgive all sins. Indeed He is the All-forgiving, the All-merciful.[2]

After asking Allah for forgives, strive to do good as much as possible.

May Allah protect us all and strengthen our Imaan. Ameen
