Question:
A husband and wife have been accepted to carry out an IUI procedure to try and get pregnant. This is where they will get the husband’s sperm and inject it into the wife’s womb to increase the chance of pregnancy. I wanted to find out if this treatment is permitted and am wondering if I could get some advice.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
Allah mentions in the Quraan,
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the day and night there are signs for people of reason.
When IVF procedures are to take place, it must be kept in mind and is a strong part of our faith that all matters of life and death belong in the hands of Allah. If after exhausting all natural methods to try to conceive a baby does not produce any of the desired results, then you may approach IVF with severe caution and place entire reliance and trust in Allah.
The sperm may only come from the man who is to be the Father and the eggs from the Mother.
It is not permissible to mix or use anyone else’s or to adopt any other route.
It should be the materials and natural resources from the Mother and Father involved.
