Question:

When I came out of ruku I was leaning further back then when I was standing reciting Quran. Does this invalidate salah?

Answer:

When one is reciting Surah Al-Fatiha and other Quran verses during salah they should be in the standing position. When one comes up from ruku’, one should also be in the standing position. The definition of standing is that when one extends their hands in this position their hands should not reach their knees. It does not matter if the two positions differ in minute ways in terms of standing angle, so long as they are both positions which meet the minimum requirements in the defintion of standing.

If in either position one’s back is overly bent without a valid excuse to the extent that it would be considered ‘bowing’ rather than ‘standing’, the obligatory standing of that salah action will not be considered complete and therefore one’s salah will not be valid. However, this failure to achieve ‘standing’ is much more likely to occur in the standing after ruku’ rather than the standing during recitation. If the standing in ruku’ was more “back” than the standing in salah, it appears that both standings would have been valid and the salah would have been complete.
