Question
I have worked in customer service for the past year. Most of the time I have lied and made false promises to customers. Recently I resigned from this job due to lack of satisfaction. Did I do wrong, is that right to continue in the same field of job.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer
Abu Hurairah has narrated: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The signs of a hypocrite are three: Whenever he speaks he tells a lie; whenever he is entrusted he proves dishonest; whenever he promises he breaks his promise.”[1]
From the above Hadith and many others, we can deduce that it is not befitting the character of a Muslim to be engaged or involved in such deeds in their personal life or work life.
Therefore Inshallah there will be goodness in your choice of leaving such a job that requires one to carry out sinful acts.
It is better for you to search for a job whereby it does not involve any sinful actions to be carried out.
In addition to this sincere taubah (repentance) should be carried out for any sins committed.
