Question:
I have a question that I hope you can help me with.
I have heard some Scholars say that the Makruh time for Asr is 20
minutes before sunset, and other saying it can be half an hour depending on the time and place.
I would like to know, what time will it be in West Bromwich, Birmingham? I would like to know this because I live here and would the time be the same throughout Birmingham?
Answer
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
It was narrated from Abü Bakr, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever prays at the two cool times (Fajr and Asr), he will enter Paradise." [Muslim14381- 635]
Makruh Time of Asr: According to the Madhab of Ahnaf " The delaying of Asr is recommended in winters as well as summers till such times that the sun has not changed (its bright white colour). What is considered for such change is the disk of the sun and that is when it turns into a state when the eyes do not feel any strain by looking at it. Delaying it till this time is disapproved (Makhruh). [see: Al-Hidayah, chapter: Prayer Timings, publisher: Centre for Excellence in Research Islamabad]
As you live in West Bromwich I would advice to follow the prayer timetable of the nearest mosque of your residence.
