Question:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

Is a divorcee in her 60s allowed to marry without informing her mother? She fears her mother will not approve as he is 30 years younger than her.
Will she incur Allah SWTs displeasure. Jazakumullahukhairan

Answer:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

In the Hanafi school, it is not a requirement for a girl to get the permission of her wali in order for the marriage to be valid. "The marriage of a free and adult woman is valid even without the permission of her guardian…and this is the chosen Fatwa due to corrupt times…" (Radd ul-Muhtar 4:155) This is the case even if the man is not a suitable match for her.

Try to make both of your parents happy by convincing them, but if you cannot, then the marriage will be done without their happiness.
