Question

Assalamualaikum,

Q1: If one enters Makkah with the intention of tamattu’ and performs Umrah, but then performs several umrahs for deceased, is it ok?

Q2: Does one have to collect pebbles himself in Mizdalifa for it to be valid for Rami in jamarat, or is it valid to take pebbles from others?

Q3: Can Tawaf al-Ziyarah be prolonged and done to after 12th of Dhul Hijjah for reasons of it being difficult to go back to Makkah before 12th?

Answer:

1. A person performing Hajj Tamattu’, after completing his Umrah, may perform several Umrahs before the commencement of the days of Hajj.[1]

2. A person may collect pebbles from anywhere he wants except near the jamarāt, masjid, or an impure place. If he does, it will be Makrūh Tanzīhī (mildly disliked) although permissible. However, it is Mustahab (liked) to collect the pebbles from Muzdalifah.[2]

3. The time for the commencement of Tawāf Ziyārah is from the true dawn of the 10th Dhul Hijjah to the sunset of the 12th Dhul Hijjah. It is wājib for one to perform their Tawāf Ziyārah before the end of this time. If one delays their Tawāf Ziyārah after this time, they will still have to perform it and also give one damm.[3]
