Question:

My mother has cut her hair quite short and she’s got a bunch. She was saying the hospital told her about these little girls who have cancer who are looking for hair that they can use to make a wig. Can she donate it.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Allah has created mankind and honoured the, part of this honour includes the flesh and blood of the believer being sacred. The hair of a person is also included in this honour.

Therefore, it will be impermissible for a woman to donate her hair nor for someone to use it for even if it be for a good cause¹, as per the hadith:

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ “‏ لَعَنَ اللَّهُ الْوَاصِلَةَ وَالْمُسْتَوْصِلَةَ، وَالْوَاشِمَةَ وَالْمُسْتَوْشِمَةَ

Abu Huraira (ra) narrates that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Allah has cursed the lady who artificially lengthens (her or someone else’s) hair and the one who gets her hair lengthened and the One who tattoos (herself or someone else) and the one who gets herself tattooed”²

However, the person can make use of artificial hair or wool from animals³, apart from the hair of pigs.
