Question: 

AsSalaamu alaykum,

Is Maryam’s (AS) mother’s name good to keep as a name? If so, I would like to know the Arabic and English spelling for the mother of Maryam (AS) and also the meaning please.

Answer:

Wa alaikumus salaam

It is important to keep a good name for a child. It is the right of the child upon the parent to have a good name.

As for the question posed. The mother of Maryam AS is Hannah (حنة) which means to be compassionate and affectionate. It is a good name and name of the wife of Nabi Imran (as).
