Question:
My question is that in September I had my nikah. It was very intimate with family and a few relatives.
Alhamdulillah the marriage was going well and around 3 weeks ago we’ve started to have a lot of problems which we are sorting. I do not want to throw this marriage away and both husband and I want to work it out.
I wanted to know in Islam is it allowed to have your nikah read again? The reason I wanted to do this is because it would be special and remind us both our vows etc
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
The conditions for nikah are the following:
- There needs to be an offer and an acceptance
- The speech has to be in the past tense or one in the past tense and the other in the future tense
- Two witnesses (two sane, mature Muslim men or a man and two women) must be present. (1)
Thus, the above is the criteria to be married and be tied in a contract according to the Hanafi madhab.
A Nikah ceremony will solemnize a marriage and two people will become halal for one another. As long as the initial Nikah is done, the marriage is established and a renewed Nikah won’t impact or affect the previous Nikah ceremony.
Thus, a renewed Nikah won’t impact one’s marriage and so there will be no harm in renewing Nikah. Please remember, the Nikah won’t result a new marriage but would just be an event and nothing more.

النكاح ينعقد بالإيجاب والقبول، بلفظين يعبر بهما عن الماضي، و يعبر بأحدهما عن الماضي والآخر عن المستقبل، مثل أن يقول أو زوجني فيقول زوجتك
