Question:

Asalamwalykum hope you are well, as explained many times I am an OCD patient since 2014 and have not been cured started with washing my hands all the time getting blood tests every 3 months due to thinking I have hepatitis, having a shower 3-4 times a day and now it’s changed to thinking about divorce all the time without me wanting to I am currently undergoing therapy.

Ok so I was in bed watching something and the statement is always in my mind the I and you know the rest I won’t even write it as it puts further doubts in my head and then I was like my mouth was dry so I moved my tongue to cause the saliva to get rid of dryness and due to having headphones in it sounded like basically your tongue moving that’s all no sound nothing and then whilst doing that and with for no reason that statement in the head makes me think did I say it? I’m 100% sure I didn’t but my OCD doubts always attack me I tried asking my wife did I say anything she was asleep so didn’t respond but I know 110% I didn’t say it as you have said many times in the past certainty cant be lifted by doubt? Do I follow that and ignore the wasawasa? Also, we weren’t arguing or anything no d words discussing or anything my wife slept with no issue we have no problems generally talking as a couple we are very happy and are expected a 2nd child inshaAllah.

Answer:

As you mentioned, the principle that certainty is not removed by doubt will apply here (Qawaaid Fiqhiyyah, Pg 15). You are pretty sure that you did not say anything so the doubt that you said something would not be considered.

اليقين لا يزول بالشك
