Question:

Due to the ongoing conflict in Palestine, protests are becoming more common and frequent. My question relates to whether it is permissible for women to partake. Due to the intermixing and raising voices etc I was of the idea that it may be impermissible however there is a lot of debate around the issue.

If you could kindly provide some clarification.

Answer:

Although protesting for a good cause is generally permitted, Muslims must abide by shari rules. This means that men and women should not mix and should observe modesty.

The Palestinian protests that we see currently are quite large and crowded, not fit for Muslim women who fully observe their religious practices and maintain their modesty. Therefore, they should avoid going to these protests.

Instead, suppose a woman wishes to show her solidarity with Palestine. In that case, she can explore alternative ways to support the cause, such as donating to humanitarian organisations, raising awareness through social media, or participating in online campaigns. These methods allow Muslim women to uphold their religious obligations while still actively contributing to the Palestinian cause and advocating for justice.
