Question:

Are these ok to wear with Ihram if I am not able to wear flip flops?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

In Ihram, a person is required to leave the ankles and the top of the feet uncovered. The shoes or sandals worn must not cover these areas, as stated in the Hanafi Fiqh:

Yes, going barefoot during Ihram is completely permissible and, in fact, it is considered closer to the Sunnah. The Prophet ﷺ himself sometimes performed Tawaf barefoot, as mentioned in the Hadith:

It was narrated that ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbas said:

“The Prophets used to enter the Haram walking barefoot. They would circumambulate the House and complete all the rituals barefoot and walking.” – Ibn Majah, 2939

The Prophet ﷺ performed Tawaf of the House (Ka’bah) while barefoot.

Abul Hasan Ahmad ibn Muhammad Quduri (RH) said:

So when he proclaims the Talbiyah, he has entered the state of Ihram. Therefore, he should avoid what Allah has forbidden, such as indecency, sinfulness, and disputing. He should not kill any game, nor point towards it, nor guide others to it. He should not wear a shirt, trousers, a turban, a cap, a cloak, or leather socks—unless he does not find sandals, in which case he should cut them below the ankles.”

The fatwa, if you are unable to wear flip-flops, you can wear any footwear that leaves the top of your foot and your ankles uncovered. Many pilgrims opt for open sandals that do not cover these parts. (2)
