Question:

We are a supply chain management agency providing services to clients globally. Recently, we have been approached by a new client who sells sex wedge pillows. These pillows are designed to facilitate intimacy between partners during sexual activity. While they might have other general use cases, they are primarily marketed for sexual purposes and are promoted with semi-nude images.

There are two types of products involved:

Simple Wedge Pillows – These are standard pillows designed to provide comfort and support during intimacy. They can potentially be used by married couples for halal purposes, similar to how condoms are permitted for halal relationships.

Wedge Pillows with Mounted Sex Toys – Some of the pillows have sex toys attached to them. Our understanding is that products involving sex toys may not be permissible (halal) under Islamic guidelines.

Our concern is whether it is permissible from an Islamic perspective to work with this client.

Specifically:

Would it be permissible to provide supply chain services for simple wedge pillows intended to facilitate intimacy between married couples, considering that similar allowances are made for products like condoms? Would it be impermissible (haram) to work on wedge pillows that have sex toys mounted on them?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Regarding this new client that you have been approached by whose business is Simple Wedge Pillows or Wedge Pillows with Mounted Sex Toys intended to facilitate intimacy between couples, it will not be permissible to provide supply chain services for this client due to the pillows having semi-nude pictures on them as well in addition to the uncertainty behind the type of toys that are mounted on the Wedge Pillows.[1]

Furthermore, the analogy made between the selling of contraceptives such as condoms and these wedge pillows is incorrect.
