Question
I have a question that I am not entirely sure about and some guidance would be much appreciated. My question relates to the validity of prayers after smoking marijuana (weed). After reading other similar questions posted on here and other websites I understand, that if consuming alcohol, then for 40 days any prayers are not accepted, however, I am an occasional smoker and sometimes I smoke marijuana, however, I am still in my senses, I do not get intoxicated to the stage where I don’t know who or where I am. Just the occasional “splif” every few days relaxes me. Does this mean that my namaz is not accepted? My main worry is I have consumed this dope within the last week, and am wondering as Ramadhan is about to start, how does this affect my prayers and fasts if no worship is accepted for 40 days, or does this apply to alcohol. And also if I stop for example a day before Ramadhan starts, and hopefully not smoke during Ramadhan, or at worst case, smoking after breaking fast, during Ramadhan, how would this affect my fasts and prayers including tarawih.
In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
Answer
A detailed answer to this type of question has been given on the Darul Ifta Birmingham website. Please refer to the following link for a detailed answer.

The crux of the aforementioned fatwa is that when a person takes drugs and whilst he is in his intoxicated state he prays Salah, his Salah would not be accepted. However, if one took drugs and he is not intoxicated or has taken intoxicated drugs before and has repented then his Salah would be accepted. Although, there would either be no reward or a very little reward for the Salah he prayed.
