Question:

A person who has missed many qadha is normally recommended to read qadha instead of nawafil and sunan ghair muakkadah.

What about sunan muakkadah?

Should he also leave those out and perform qadha or perform the current sunan muakkadah?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Ideally one should not completely leave out sunnah mu’akkadah prayers on a regular basis without excuse as this would be sinful and blameworthy.[1] Therefore it would be better to do both the qadha prayers and the sunnah mu’akkadah prayers as far as one is able. If one is absolutely struggling to do both then the qadha for fardh prayer will have priority as it is a fardh compared to praying a sunnah mu’akada.[2]
