Question:

Sir my father is 70 years old. Unfortunately, after the prostate operation, he is facing urinary incontinence and now using a urine bag. Otherwise, he is physically fit and before operation used to go to Masjid regularly (5 Times).

Even now he can walk to Masjid but some other people in Masjid are objecting that you cannot come to Masjid with a urine bag it’s a sin and your prayers will not be accepted.

One Imam in another Masjid told us that there is no objection if he used a fully intact bag, no leakage, no smell, and always hidden in a normal shopping bag and always with fully clean cloths. My Dad is fulfilling all these things.

Please advise the correct scenario and send on my email in the form of signed & Stamped Fatwa in the Urdu language, please.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

If someone has a health issue because of which they can pray like someone has a urine bag attached as the case above, then according to the Islamic principle “Necessity permits prohibitions”[i] praying will be allowed.

If the urine bag is hidden and secured, then it will not be in the ruling of external impurity rather it will be considered as an internal organ.

In short, your father can pray with a urine bag.

Only Allah knows best.
