Question

Assalamu Alaikum.

I have a doubt regarding my salah during Hajj.

Based on my calculation, I was supposed to stay for 14 days in Makkah, therefore I was praying Qasar. During Hajj, I was also doing the same when praying alone. People from my group were offering full salah and told me that it is fifteen days (as some mufti told them). I didn't check with any mufti prior to leaving.

Due to this confusion, I offered a couple of full salah's on 11th Dhul Hijjah and then again corrected to Qasar Salah for the remaining 10 days.

1. Please tell me if the full salah is valid or not?

2. Is stopping full salah and continuing Qasar correct?

3. Will this impact Hajj? I am getting doubts if my Hajj is valid or not due to this confusion

Answer:

You mentioned that you travelled to Makkah for Hajj with the thought that you will be staying for fourteen days, thus you prayed qasr while you were there. However, due to some confusion, you performed some of your prayers as full and then went back to qasr afterwards.

As a traveller, who intended to stay for fourteen days, you were obliged to pray qasr.[1] If a traveller purposely prays full salah, this is prohibitively disliked. However, because you prayed your salah full due to confusion, your salah is still valid, so long as you sat in the first sitting and recited the tashahhud.[2]
