Question:

I wanted ask a question about a opinion in the hanifi madhhab concerning the khuff. I have leather khuffs that I want to sell because i can’t use them since their painted in the maliki madhhab it would be considered as a luma’a (barrier) and wiping wouldn’t be valid on them. Would they be okay in the hanifi madhhab

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

According to the requirements of the Hanafi Mathhab , the conditions for the validity of masah upon the khuff does not include the absence of a barrier as is in the case of washing the limbs in wudhu. Masah upon the painted khuff will be acceptable in the Hanafi mathhab.

Leather tanning existed during the time of Nabi Sallalaahu alayhi wasallam. In ancient times tanning included putting natural substances like resin from tree bark, oils etc. upon leather.

You may sell the khuff to anyone who is prepared to buy it.

Only Allah (عز و جل) knows best.
