Questions on Haidh

CategoriesWomen's Issues [292]

If it is so that the bleeding has started a few days early and if added to the days of her usual habit the total will add up to more than 10 days, then she should count all these extra days prior to her usual habit as Istihaadhah and continue performing salah and fasts of Ramadhan. For example a woman has a habit of 5 days haidh and 25 days cleanliness. Now she sees blood after 19 days of purity, which is 6 days before her normal habit. If added to the days of her normal habit (5days), they total to 11 days, so she will continue salah and fasts until the days of her normal place of habit. Now if this bleeding continues for up to 10 days then all of it will be Haidh

Answer

The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam has said, “Two menstruations cannot occur within fifteen days of each other.” (Sunan Baihaqi)

With regards to your question, if a woman’s habit is five days and then she bleeds up to eleven days then up to her habit i.e. five days will be considered as haidh and the surplus blood will be considered as istihadaah.

Question

If a woman’s normal habit is 5 days haydh and 30 days tuhr and she sees blood on day 17 (13 days early) and she adds these 13 days to 5 days (which is her normal habit) the total is more than 10 days, so according to the first point in the notes above, she will continue salah till she reaches her place of habit. Now the question is does she continue salah for the 13 days till she reaches the habit place in case bleeding continues till then?

Answer

As I mentioned above the minimum days of tuhr or cleanliness is fifteen days. Therefore, when the woman sees blood on the seventeenth day after her previous period then if the blood continues for three to ten days it will be considered as haidh. It will be obligatory for her to refrain from praying and fasting during this period.

Question

If the woman bleeds for only 6 days and therefore doesn’t even reach the place of habit and a complete tuhr occurs after the 6 day bleeding, so in this case does it mean that a new habit has been formed (in place and number) and that she performed salah in her haidh days?

Answer

In the aforementioned scenario, six days will be considered as her new habit for the next menstruation cycle.
