Question:

If an imam goes into qa’idah akhīrah, waits a few seconds and then says the takbīr (the one that should have been said to go into qa’idah akhīrah), would that constitute delaying a wajib?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Leaving out the takbir’s of transition, or delaying them, does not invalidate the Salah. It is not considered delaying a wājib, because the followers are aware of the Imam’s physical movements.

If the Imam moves into a posture on time then it will not be regarded as delaying a wajib even if the takbir was said a bit late, the takbeers of transition are sunnah not wājib. As long as the people are aware of the Imam’s movement, the Salah is valid and there’s nothing wrong. Such a Salah will not need to be repeated nor would Sajdah Sawhu be compulsory.
