Question:

After coming up from ruku in Witr I remembered I had forgotten Qunoot. I then decided to go down into sujood instead of reciting it after ruku. I did Sajda sahw so is the salah valid?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

In Witr Salah, the Du‘a Qunoot is a unique and important component, particularly in the third rak’ah. According to the Hanafi school, reciting Qunoot is wājib (necessary). Missing a wajib act in Salah unintentionally requires Sajda Sahw the prostration of forgetfulness) to compensate for missing out a wajib or fard act in Salah.

If a person forgets Qunoot and only remembers it after ruku, then he should not return to recite it, Instead, continue the prayer as normal and then Perform Sajda Sahw before or after salam to correct the mistake.

Your Salah is valid and acceptable, inshaAllah, because you followed this method correctly.
