Question

It is now more common knowledge that Men are capable of having multiple orgasms by training themselves to experience Non-Ejaculatory full-body orgasms (NOT to be confused with retrograde ejaculation). The obvious benefit is the ability to last as long as they want (because there’s no refractory period), consequently earning the reward of pleasing their wife (by the will of Allah).

My question is regarding whether or not there is anything that might be of worry from a fiqhi perspective when it comes to Non-Ejaculatory Orgasms (NEO). For example, consider the following scenarios.

If a person experienced an NEO without penetrative sex during foreplay, will ghusl be required?

If a person masturbates till a NEO but not till ejaculation would that be equally sinful as traditional masturbation?

Will Ghusl be required in the NEO due to the masturbation case?

After how much time will one single continuous session of penetrative sex with one’s wife be deemed excessive? (30m?, 1h?, 2hs?)

If there are some important questions which  I missed, please answer that as well.

Answer

Non-Ejaculatory Orgasms (NEO) and Ghusl during Foreplay

According to the Hanafi school, ghusl becomes obligatory when ejaculation occurs or when there is sexual intercourse (i.e., the head of the male organ enters the female organ), even without ejaculation. However, if there is a non-ejaculatory orgasm during foreplay without penetration, then ghusl would not be required, as the condition for ghusl is either ejaculation or penetration.

If there is any discharge of pre-seminal fluid (mady), wudu (ablution) would be required, but not ghusl.

Masturbation and NEO (Non-Ejaculatory Orgasm)

Masturbation is considered impermissible (haram). Even if no ejaculation occurs during masturbation, the act itself is still sinful.

Therefore, achieving a non-ejaculatory orgasm through masturbation would be equally sinful as traditional masturbation because the impermissibility stems from the act, not the result (i.e., ejaculation).

Ghusl Requirement after NEO due to Masturbation:

Ghusl is only obligatory if ejaculation occurs. If a person masturbates until a non-ejaculatory orgasm without any discharge of semen, ghusl would not be required though wudu would be needed if any pre-seminal fluid is discharged.

Excessive Length of Penetrative Sex with One’s Wife:

Islam does not prescribe a maximum or minimum duration for sexual relations between a husband and wife. The primary focus is on mutual satisfaction, respect, and fulfilling the rights of one’s spouse.

As long as the relationship is consensual, there is no fixed time limit that would be considered excessive. However, a couple should be mindful of each other’s physical limits and well-being. If the wife is content and there’s no harm, there’s no issue with a long session, whether it lasts 30 minutes, 1 hour, or more.

In summary:

Ghusl is not required for non-ejaculatory orgasms unless there is penetration or ejaculation.

Masturbation is still impermissible, regardless of whether ejaculation occurs.

There is no fixed duration for sexual relations; the focus is on mutual pleasure and well-being.
