Question:

If a person is sick for a long time and no solution is found for complete recovery, can his family members give a goat to a madrasa for these two intentions that (1) Allah the Exalted may grant him easy recovery and (2) Allah the Exalted increases his lifespan(hayat)?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

It is narrated from Ali that God’s messenger said: –

“Give the sadaqah without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.”[i]

We have to understand one thing is that life and death, health and illness is from Allah. So, if Allah wants to cure no matter how worst is the situation Allah will cure it.

As Muslims, we should know that all the prayers are answered by Allah. It is mentioned from Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah  said:

“There is not a man who calls upon Allah with a supplication, except that he is answered. Either it shall be granted to him in the world or reserved for him in the Hereafter, or his sins shall be expiated for it according to the extent that he supplicated – as long as he does not supplicate for some sin, or for the severing of the ties of kinship, and he does not become hasty.” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, and how would he be hasty?” He said: “He says: ‘I called upon my Lord, but He did not answer me.’”[ii]

So, giving sadaqa on the intention that Allah will give a person easy recovery or increase the life span is permissible.

Only Allah knows best.
