Question:

I have recently done ishtikhara regarding marriage to a particular sister. I dont know if certain things can be considered as signs. The firt time i did ishtikhara an aunt of mine said that i should get married, where my mum replied i could get married to whom ever i want. Also a friend suggested i should be gettin married soon when i did ishtikhara recently. can these be considered as positive signs or is it just coincedence?

Answer:

Bismillah

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Salatul Istikhara is a prayer in which Allah guides you towards that which is best for you.  It is not necessary that one must experience or see a vision or dream after performing Istikhara.  (Raddul Muktar p.470 v.2)

With regards to your question the information your auntie said will be considered as a coincidence and not an answer of the Istikhara you performed.  However, you should take the advice of your auntie on board and if there is an inclination in marrying this girl, you should do it.

Imam Nawawi raḥimahullāh (may Allāh have mercy upon him) has mentioned that before the Istikhara one should take advice from those with knowledge and wisdom.  One of the benefits of this is to further distance oneself from the desires of ones own inclinations.
