Question:
If a person slaughters the animal halfway and can’t manage to slaughter it fully and someone comes along and helps slaughter the other half of the animal, is it halaal the animal?
Answer:
In The Name Of Allah, The Most-Merciful, The Most Kind
Sacrifice is wājib upon every free Muslim man, who is resident and financially well-off on the day of Adha. He should offer the sacrifice on behalf of him and on behalf of his minor son. This position in the Hanafi Madhab is based on the following hadith:
“He who has the capacity to make the sacrifice but opts to deny it, let him not approach our place of prayer.” [i]
When performing the sacrifice care should be taken so that the animal is not made subject to unnecessary pain and distress. The Messenger of Allah (s) said:
“Verily Allah has prescribed proficiency in all things. Thus, if you kill (an animal), kill well; and if you slaughter, slaughter well. Let each one of you sharpen his blade and let him spare suffering to the animal he slaughters.”[ii]
It is recommended for the one who intends to do the Qurbani to slaughter the animal himself if he is able to do so. This is because the sacrifice is an act of worship. If he is unable to do the slaughter himself he may seek assistance from another and witness the slaughter.
The conclusion we can come to is if another person was to assist him in the finishing of the Qurbani it will be permissible.
Only Allah knows best
