Question:
Asalamualaikum, Please tell me what are the minimum fardh requirements in a prayer to make it valid, suppose a person has less time to offer a prayer or umre qadha are too many to be offer regularly as college life is hectic…. What are the minimum things that can be recited in a prayer and also can subhana RABBIYAL ALA and subhana RABBIYAL azeem n recited once only?
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.
There are 6 Fardh acts in Salaah. They are the following:
- Takbeer Tahreemah.
The Prophet has said: “No one’s salaah is complete unless he does Wudu properly and says the takbeer”. (Tabrani Mujam Kabeer 4522)
- Standing. (Qiyam)
Allah says: “And stand before Allah with devout obedience” (Surah Baqarah verse 238)
- Reciting the Quran (Qiraat)
Allah says in the Holy Quran: “Then recite what is easy of the Quran” (Surah Muzzammil verse 20). It should be noted that the recitation of Suratul Faatihah is Waajib. To deliberately omit it will make the salaah void, whereas if it was missed unintentionally Sajdah Sahw will become obligatory. It is also obligatory in Fard prayers, that in the first two rakaats one prays Surah Faatihah and another surah. Instead of reciting a surah, he can recite 3 verses or one long verse which is equivalent to 3 verses.
- Ruku.
Allah says: O you who believe, bow down and prostrate yourselves. (surah Hajj verse 77)
- Sajdah
- The final sitting
The Prophet has said : “ when you raise your head from the last sajdah and sit for tashahud, you have completed your salaah.( Sahih Bukhari) (extracted from Mukhtasar Qudoori p19).
These are the compulsory acts of prayer. One must ensure that these acts are completed in prayer so that one’s salaah may be complete. If anyone of these acts were omitted intentionally or not then salaah will be void. One will have to repeat his prayer again.
With regards to Tasbeeh in Rukooh and sujood, it is a proven Sunnah from the prophet sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
Uqbah Bin Amir reported: “ when the verse ‘glorify the name of your lord the great’ was revealed, the prophet told us, ‘do so in your Rukus’.” (Sunan Abu Dawud p134 v1)
Abdullah Bin Masood narrates that the prophet sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “when one of you bows, he should say three times glory to my lord the great, and when he prostrates he should say glory to my lord the most high three times. This is the minimum number” (ibid.)
To read this tasbeehaat in ruku and sujood three times is as an act which is classed from the sunnats of prayer. It is not a Waajib act, (Darse Tirmidhi p46 v2)
The Sunnah method is recite these tasbeehs three times. If a person was to completely miss these tasbeehaats out(or he was to read it less than three times) then his salaah will still be valid ,however, he has not done a good action as he has left out a action of our beloved Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam.(Umdatul Fiqh p102 v2)
