Question

I was at a perfume store and tested some perfumes. After a while it felt like a few drops entered my mouth, it wasn’t my intention. When I left the store I spitted to make sure there were no traces of the perfume and after a while, I rinsed my mouth when I came across a tap. Am I sinful for this and does the ruling of 40 days of no acceptance of prayer apply to me?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

According to the Hanafi Fiqh, all alcohol-based chemicals are not always haram. Any type of product derived directly from dates or grapes will be impure and impermissible when they are fermented to a state of alcohol.

However, other alcohols that are derived from other sources and are not used by immoral people for leisure, nor are they intoxicating, then the ruling is different. Therefore in alcohol-based perfume, it is permissible to use for clothing and you will not be sinful if a drop had entered your mouth.
