Question

What is the difference between Fardh and Wajib in the Hanafi Fiqh?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Something is considered Fardh in the Hanafi Fiqh when both the text and the meaning are definitive (qati) and Wajib is when either the text or meaning is speculative (Zanni, thus being liable for interpretation of meaning or investigation of authenticity).

(Imdadul Fattah p.256)

Based on this distinction, if someone denies a Fardh command it will take him or her out of the fold of Islam, whereas if someone denies a Wajib, it would not take someone out of the fold of Islam.
