Question:

Are all forms of gambling (Maysir/Al-qimar) Haraam?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

All forms of gambling (مَيْسِر / القِمَار) are haram (forbidden) in Islam.

Allah says in the Quran[i]: –

They ask you about wine and gambling. Say, “In them is great sin and [yet, some] benefit for people. But their sin is greater than their benefit…”

(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:219)

O you who believe! Intoxicants, gambling, stone alters and drawing lots for decisions are abominations of Satan’s work. So, avoid them that you may be successful.

(Surah Al-Maidah, 5:90)
