Question:

Asalamualaikum

I would like some advice. I converted to Islam from the age of 17 I married straightaway. We have been married for 10 years and have 3 children.

During the first 6 years, we used to fight a lot he has given me 2 talaqs which are not in dispute.

He gave me a third one during a fight it was not intentional and he wrote I divorce you followed by swear words because I kept saying to him in anger just give me it give me to divorce you not a man I understand it was very wrong but we were going through a really bad time and he is short tempered. so he wrote I divorce you on a piece of paper he said he didn't intend to divorce me it was more to keep me quiet and I didn't take it seriously. Now several years later we are really confused as to whether we are now living a haram life are we divorced I would really appreciate an answer.

Answer:

Walaikumusalam

The third talaq (divorce) is binding and your nikah (marriage) with your husband has now completely ended. You have now become mugal’lazah (completely haram upon your husband).
